The struggle between Assassins and Templars has indeed survived in all eras since their beginning during the Crusades: the handful of Assassins who resist today (of which Desmond is the last descendant) are threatened by the multinational company Abstergo Industrieswhich embraces the ideas of the Templars. This man can relive the memories of his ancestors thanks to a device called “Animus”, allowing him to travel in time through their common genetic memory.
